Tango and balalaika -- an unlikely combination? Tango is a dance that originated in Argentina; balalaika, a Russian instrument.
And yet! Imagine their symbiosis… Balalaika discovering the world of tango with its tremolos beckoning to perform seamless giros and lapiz. Its rhythmic accents, in turn, convey hints of boleo, while its chords and pizzicati tempt tangueras and tangueros into an abrazo cerado.
The originator of this unlikely alliance is a somewhat offbeat musician who lives in Switzerland, dances the tango and plays balalaika. Combining his two passions, he now graciously shares with you his duet arrangements for balalaika and guitar that are free to download.
If you happen to play these pieces and/or perform at a concert or a milonga, please share your experience by leaving a message on the forum.
